A Timeline of Disconnect at the UN: Syria's Collapse and the UN's Obsessive Focus on Israel
A Disturbing Look at the UN's Obsession with Israel While Syria Collapsed to Terrorist
The current situation at the United Nations is absurd on so many levels
On Friday, the United Nations received a letter of grievance from Syria’s interim government, now led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) – a group linked to Al-Qaeda, and its leader listed as a terrorist by the UN. The letter complained about Israeli airstrikes on weapons facilities and the expansion of Israel’s buffer zone in Syria.
A Syrian government now led by figures directly linked to terrorism had the audacity to file a complaint with the UN Security Council against Israel. Israel’s operations, aimed at preventing weapons, including chemical weapons, from reaching radical groups and ensuring regional stability, are vital for its security and security of the entire region.
“The only interest we have is the security of Israel and its citizens….That’s why we attacked strategic weapons systems, like, for example, remaining chemical weapons, or long-range missiles and rockets, in order that they not fall into the hands of extremists.” - Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar
“The military would destroy heavy strategic weapons throughout Syria, including surface-to-air missiles, air defense systems, surface-to-surface missiles, cruise missiles, long-range rockets and coastal missiles.” - Defense Minister Israel Katz
This letter was a duplicate of one sent on December 9, after Israel entered on December 8th the buffer zone to prevent jihadi groups from filling the power vacuum left by the collapse of the Assad regime.

Timeline of Disconnection from Reality at the United Nations
Wednesday, November 27, 2024:
Rebel forces launched a major offensive that included Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), led by Abu Mohammad al-Joulani, someone declared a terrorist by the UN Security Council since 2013 and with a United States $10 million reward for information leading his arrest. The attack included a coalition of the Syrian National Army, armed groups allegedly backed by Turkey and Kurdish Forces, resulting in the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad who fled to Moscow by plane on Sunday, December 8th.
Tuesday, December 3, 2024:
As Syria continues to collapse to the hands of an Al-Qaeda linked terrorist group , the UN passes a resolution demanding Israel return the Golan Heights to Syria, despite the regime’s collapse and the ongoing instability within Syria. This resolution shows the UN’s continued failure to address the real problems in the region.

As Syria continues to collapses to the hands of an Al-Qaeda linked terrorist group
The General Assembly convened for an emergency session about Israel to discuss the "illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory," while Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, in his speech, presented examples of the hate education provided by the Palestinian Authority with the taxes of the world.
UN headquarters inaugurated an anti-Israel photo exhibit featuring the “work” of terrorists in Gaza. Exhibit included, Mahmoud Abu Hamda, who laughed about Hamas kidnapping “sabayas” (sex slaves) on October 7th and Yasser Fathi Qudih who embedded himself with terrorists early in the morning on October 7th as the Hamas massacre was still ongoing

Syria officially collapses to the hands of an Al-Qaeda linked terrorist group
Armed rebel groups entered the area of separation, attacked UNDOF forces, temporarily seized several UNDOF posts, and looted equipment belonging to the force. The IDF assisted the UN forces in repelling the attack after Rebel forces took control over the Quneitra and Daraa area, on the Israeli-Syrian border, from Syrian government forces over the weekend
The UN’s Humanitarian mission reduces its staff in Syria, relocating “non-critical staff” outside the country.

Rebels take control of infamous Saydnaya prison in Syria, footage shows horrifying images from Saydnaya Prison and the torture dungeons of the Assad Regime Come out.
Syria’s UN Mission submitted a letter to the UN Security Council, complaining about Israeli actions, including the expansion of the buffer zone a day earlier and Israeli airstrikes targeting weapons facilities. By the time the letter was submitted, Bashar al-Assad had already been ousted a few days earlier and had fled to Moscow the day before.
UN Security Council after Russia calls for closed consultation meet to address the developments in Syria and their implications for the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), set to be renewed before December 31, 2024.
Russia has been harboring the ousted Assad regime in Moscow since the regime’s collapse and was involved in protecting the Regime with bases in Syria, raising serious questions about the UN’s legitimacy of attending such meetings.Israel sent an urgent letter, addressed to the President of the Security Council (United States), where it repeated how on 7 December, armed groups entered the area of separation, highlighting the IDF help to the UN forces in repelling the attack. The letter further described Israel’s actions in the Golan as “limited and temporary measures”, adding that the IDF has deployed in a limited capacity in specific locations “where defensive measures are necessary to maintain security, stability, and preventing armed groups from threatening Israeli territory”.
The United Nations claimed that this “would constitute a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.”, this statement ignored the fact that the agreement had already collapsed between Israel and Syria when rebel forces attacked UNDOF forces and Syria’s government was under the control of a terrorist organization.
Wednesday, December 11, 2024:
The UN focuses its attention with passing resolutions demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and defending UNRWA, an organization controlled by Hamas. Syria participates in the vote, with no clear understanding of whether it is representing the ousted Assad regime or the terrorist organization now in control. The confusion and lack of moral clarity within the UN cannot be ignored.
The United Nations sent reinforcements UNDOF and protect the buffer zone from Israel, not to protect it from the Islamist who took over Syria and attacked UNDOF forces four days before.
Friday, December 13, 2024:
The UN receives a second letter from Syria’s, now clearly by the interim government, led by a terrorist organization, repeating its grievance about Israel’s operations, particularly targeting weapons storage facilities in Syria. This letter was filed after Israeli airstrikes aimed at preventing chemical weapons from reaching terrorist groups.
The UN, under António Guterres, echoed Syria’s complaints, labeling Israel’s actions as "violations of territorial integrity and sovereignty" while ignoring that the very government making these accusations is led by a man on the U.S.’s most-wanted list, with a $10 million bounty for terrorism.
The United Nations' failure to recognize the reality in Syria, the horrifying images from Saydnaya Prison and the torture dungeons of the Assad Regime, the involvement of Turkey in destabilizing the region while its proxies and Islamist groups attack minorities and how Turkey continues to boost its influence in Syria, is both alarming and irresponsible.
By legitimizing a government now controlled by a terrorist organization and ignoring the realities on the ground and the actors involved in destabilizing the region, the UN not only highlights it has lost its moral compass but also how it is actively supporting the forces driving regional instability.
Its obsession with Israel, while ignoring the growing terrorist threat now lead by Turkey and a terrorist organization, reflects a dangerous disconnect from the real issues. As the UN continues to empowers the collapse of international norms and deepens the security crisis in the region.
